Bullfrog exceeded all my expectations. Even though it was only supposed to be a learning project and was developed with a tiny budget, downloads have been non-stop since it made its way on to the big Mac download websites.

Watching as the high scores have gotten higher and higher over time and reading all the extremely positive feedback has been feeding the game developer monster inside of me.

Finally, I can’t resist any longer. I’ve decided to begin development on the sequel to my little arcade game. But, this time the plan is a little different.

I’ve accomplished a ton since then.

I have learned Objective-C and some Cocoa. I have dabbled with The Allegro Game Framework but ultimately chose something else. I committed to competing in the 2005 Original Mac Games Cup which directly lead to developing and finally publishing my first game.

Not too shabby for doing most of this after “the day job”. Hopefully the second year will be as fruitful, if not more so.

Thanks for reading, commenting, and supporting me.

What I need is someone with an Intel Mac to help make sure the Universal Binary build works on their machine.

This shouldn’t take very much of your time. I just need someone to launch the game and check all the screens and run through the game play a few times to ensure everything is working normally.

Since the game is free, I can’t really offer a free registered version. Instead I can offer you glorious fame by adding your name to the game credits as a beta tester.

If you are willing to participate, please contact me directly at jtrainer [at] outerlevel.com.

All the final artwork and animation is complete. All known bugs have been fixed. The final executable binary has been packaged and zipped.

Bullfrog has been officially entered into the 2005 OMG Cup and public voting opens December 1, 2005 at midnight.

If you’re interested in playing the final complete version of the game, you can find it on the official contest entry download page along with all the other games entered in the competition.

I would love for you to give the game a try and if you like it, please take the time to vote for it.

While you’re trying out games, why not support independent Mac game development and try out some of the other entries. There are some fantastic games waiting to be discovered. Don’t forget to rate each game you try. Who knows, you may discover a new favorite.
